Italy - April 2003

Ercolano

I spent a week in Italy, travelling on my airmiles so it wasn't too expensive - only 50 pounds in tax to pay. On the first full day we visited the ruins at Ercolano. These are similar to Pompeii itself, but much better preserved, and much more compact.

Vesuvius

The following day, Nicola and I went up to the summit of Vesuvius. We had tried the previous day, but the bus wasn't running. It was interesting to see the crater, though the 6 euro fee was a little high for the walk around the rim. Later in the day, we had a picnic on the lower slopes, basking in the great weather.
